Six Flags Great Adventure, in Jackson Township, New Jersey

Six Flags Great Adventure, in Jackson Township, New Jersey, is a massive 510‑acre amusement complex combining a thrilling theme park with an immersive Wild Safari drive-thru and the adjacent Hurricane Harbor water park.

Opened in 1974 (originally as Enchanted Forest), it joined the Six Flags family in 1977. In 2012, the park merged with the Wild Safari to become one of the largest theme parks globally. It features around 58 rides and 13 coasters.

🎢 Highlights:

  • El Toro: A high-speed wooden coaster offering intense airtime and steep 176 ft drops, opened in 2006.
  • Medusa: Floorless coaster with seven inversions and speeds up to 61 mph in Frontier Adventures.
  • Jersey Devil Coaster: The world’s tallest, fastest, and longest single‑rail coaster, opening in 2021 in the Pine Barrens section—a 130 ft lift hill, three inversions, speeds up to 58 mph.

The park also includes the Safari Off Road Adventure, a 350‑acre wildlife preserve housing over 1,200 animals like giraffes, tigers, and elephants in naturalistic habitats.

Annual events include the spooky Fright Fest in the Halloween season, and festive Holiday in the Park experiences in winter.

In Transition:

The iconic Kingda Ka coaster—once the tallest (456 ft) and fastest (0–128 mph in 3.5 s)—was permanently closed in late 2024 and demolished in early 2025. It is set to be replaced by a new, record‑breaking launch coaster expected by 2026.
